Week 4: Thomas and TEI

The Thomas Grey Archive online captured my interest early this week.  Grey's work is presented for research and scholarly purposes accompanied by links to its XML/TEI expressions (TGA 2015a). According to the website, access to the collection is free (considered an open-access initiative) [TGA 2015b]. The project is "based" on TEI and other "interoperable" standards (METS, DALF, etc.) [TGS, 2015b]. The Thomas Grey project shares all its XML text with the public but does not elaborate on encoding strategies, methods and challenges. It does however state its editorial procedures, which include but is not limited to the omission of contractions, italics and accents.
